March is normally a busy month for Parkland. However, it is especially busy and very special this year. Parkland is turning 60 this year and it is going to be sensational! Here are some ways to celebrate the big day and other happenings for the month of March.
MARCH 4th OPENING DAY FOR PARKLAND LITTLE LEAGUE: It is not a secret that Parkland loves baseball. We are definitely a baseball town. As a result, Opening Day is a big deal. Head on over to Terramar Park and cheer on our little baseball stars. There will be a bounce house, a DJ, food trucks, games and the annual Home Run Derby. Festivities begin at 10:00 am.
MARCH 5th PARKLAND CAR SHOW: The show will feature favorite classic and new cars! It will take place during the Farmers’ Market at the Equestrian Center. For more information or to register a car, please visit https://www.cityofparkland.org/1586/Parkland-Car-Show.
MARCH 5th: RUN 4 BEIGEL RACE. All are invited to walk and run in a race that honors the beloved MSD coach/teacher who lost his life during the MSD tragedy. The race supports the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund, whose mission and purpose is to send at-risk, underserved kids touched by gun violence to summer sleep-away camp. The race will take place at Pine Trails Park.
MARCH 9th-10th MUSICAL PLAY: The Award Winning MSD Drama Club will perform the musical comedy Head Over Heels. Head on over to Stoneman Douglas High to watch these highly talented students.
MARCH 11th: PARKLAND DAY PARADE: The parade begins at Heron Heights Elementary with a starting time at 11:00 am and ends at Pine Trails Park. Spectators will enjoy floats, marching bands, and more.
MARCH 11th THE KIDS ZONE: Parkland youngsters will enjoy rides, games, and more at Pine Trails Park from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
MARCH 11th CONCERT: Sugar Ray will perform at the Pine Trails Park Amphitheater from
7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. With over 8 million records sold, Sugar Ray topped the charts at #2 with “Fly” in the 1990s.
MARCH 11th HISTORY OF PARKLAND EXHIBIT: The Parkland Historical Society will offer a glimpse into Parkland’s past with a walk-through presentation of Parkland’s history. Learn about the Tequesta Indians who lived and traded in Parkland, how the City was founded, and who owned the land.
MARCH 19th FARMERS’ MARKET AND CRAFT FAIR: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Equestrian Center. Parkland’s Farmers’ Market is one of the largest in South Florida. It features much more than veggies and fruit. Parklanders love the fresh seafood, homemade donuts, plants, flowers, soaps, and the list goes on! If you have never attended one, you are missing out.
MARCH 24th MOVIE IN THE PARK: Head on over to the Pine Trails Amphitheater to sit under the stars while viewing the movie Jumanji. Movie begins at 8:00 pm.
MARCH 26th RUN4NICK 5K/10K: This run is a family friendly event held in memory of Nicholas Dworet who was tragically killed during the MSD tragedy. The race will take place at Pine Trails Park and proceeds will benefit the Nicholas Dworet Memorial Fund.
APRIL 1st EGGSTRAVAGANZA: Hop on over to Terramar Park to enjoy a morning of crafts, music, and lots of eggs! Proof of residency is required.
Although this takes place the 1st of April, I wanted to include it in this blog. This is a super popular event and requires registration to attend. Registration opens at 8:00 AM on March 19th at the Parkland P-REC building.
