Parkland, Florida The City of Parks

Parkland, Florida The City of Parks

Parkland is an idyllic community located in Southeast Florida. Although situated within a large metropolitan area, it offers parks, abundant green spaces, and country influences. Parkland Realtor, Bill Sohl, has been part of the Parkland community for decades and would like to share with you why Parkland is the City of Parks and is environmentally proud. Parklanders love their parks and here are a few of their favorites:

Liberty Park

Liberty Park was born out of Parklanders’ love for the town they call home and its strong sense of community. The Park was built by the residents and for several weeks, residents young, old and in between gathered in shifts to construct the park. It truly was a community effort, and the result was an impressive park where citizens could host events and for parents to entertain their children. The Park is seven acres and includes two beautiful playgrounds, a water play area, and one large pavilion. Due to the city’s large equestrian community, the park offers a corral for horses.

There are five multi-purpose fields for sports activities including one synthetic turf field, four T-ball fields and basketball courts. Besides organized sports fields, the park features a state-of-the-art playground with a NEOS, walking trails, Life Trails fitness equipment, pavilions, plentiful open space, and a beautiful fishing pier where the Parkland Fishing Derby Summer Series takes place.

Besides the above mentioned amenities, the park offers an Amphitheater which hosts Parkland’s popular Eats n Beats concert series, other special events and concerts.

The Parkland Recreation and Enrichment Center (P-REC) is located at Pine Trails. It offers a wide range of classes for children, teens, adults, and senior citizens. In addition to classes, several camps are held here throughout the year. Lastly, the city’s community garden is located behind the P-REC.

Doris Davis Forman Wildlife Preserve

This pristine natural area is nestled in the heart of the City of Parkland. Cooperative efforts between the Forman family, City of Parkland Mayor and City Commissioners, Broward County Board of County Commissioners, and Riverglades Elementary PTA have enabled this once endangered native land to be planned, restored, and opened to the public under the 1989 Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) Bond Program. This Park offers a 5′ wide, 900′ long pedestrian trail traveling through pine woods and a 1,550′ boardwalk meandering through cypress wetlands and past a breathtaking oak hammock. Two seating and observation areas along with a pavilion area are located along the trail.
